Experiencing Bwiti Iboga Ritual

Image from the Iboga Ceremony, by Vanessa Kelly

Vanessa Kelly recently experienced a transformative journey with Iboga, a powerful psychedelic plant (Tabernanthe iboga), in a Bwiti ritual in Gabon. Initiated by Moughenda, a tenth-generation Bwiti Shaman, Vanessa embarked on a profound exploration of self-discovery and healing. Vanessa has since written her story for EGA, so that we may all learn from her experience.

The Iboga ceremony unfolded in the Gabonese Jungle, a place rich with cultural and ceremonial significance. Vanessa, initially overwhelmed by fear and anticipation, found herself immersed in the teachings of Bwiti. Moughenda emphasized the importance of "knowing" over "belief" and introduced the concept of the third eye, highlighting the intuitive nature of Iboga.

The Iboga experience, contrary to common misconceptions, is not solely about visions. It follows a process: detoxification, physical healing, and soul rejuvenation. The aftermath of the ceremony involved a six-week journey, including microdosing, where Vanessa confronted her false beliefs, traumas, and mistakes. The Iboga-induced introspection led to profound insights, forcing her to address personal issues and take responsibility for her actions.

If you're looking to learn more about Iboga, in this EGA presentation, Jasen tells a story about his personal experience with addiction, Iboga and ibogaine.
