Mushrooms are in – but it isn’t all about psilocybin and psychedelics.

The important roles fungi play in ecological systems is becoming increasingly apparent as we recognise how fungi regulate the biosphere and support the earth’s ecological functioning. Fungi interact with humans as well.  Some, like the prized Périgord truffle, might interact too much (or just enough?). The scent of the Périgord truffle is described as 'between sex and death.' We are constantly learning about new applications for fungi, such as their use in textiles and building materials, and for processing pollutants and toxic wastes.

Above Ground Psychedelic Therapy and Garden States 2022

At Garden States 2022, attendees can expect an exciting array of presentations that explore the role of entheogenic plants in therapy and healing. This includes therapeutic research happening across Australia and the world, as well the impact of years of advocacy in using psychedelics to treat a variety of mental health conditions.

Pioneers of psychedelic clinical research in Australia, Dr. Marg Ross (Clinical Lead at St. Vincent’s Hospital) and Dr. Martin Williams (PRISM) will discuss the landmark trial of psilocybin-assisted therapy for anxiety and depression associated with terminal illness currently being undertaken at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne. They will describe features of the trial, and reflect on the path ahead for psychedelic psychotherapy within Australia.

In Conversation With Douglas Rushkoff

From hanging with Tim Leary in the 80s underground psychedelic culture to playing a crucial role chronicling the rise (and maybe fall) of cyberpunk rave culture in the 90s, Douglas Rushkoff has been at the front line of some startling cultural shifts over the past few decades. His latest book, Survival of the Richest, is a wild ride through a world where tech billionaires are planning to avoid an apocalypse of their own making.

Join Rushkoff and Haridy this December, at the world’s longest running ethnobotanical and psychedelic conference, Garden States 2022, for a free-wheeling conversation around science and technology. Rushkoff will speak about everything from how technology has influenced cultural revolution in recent years, to how big business and money are playing a part in our modern psychedelic renaissance.

We hope you’ll be there when Douglas Rushkoff streams into Garden States 2022 for a live ‘in conversation’ piece with writer and long-term friend of EGA, Rich Haridy..

What’s with psychedelic cacti?

New research, cultivation law and a global environment movement has more people growing magic cactus than ever before. Peyote is under threat and we don’t think mescaline occurs in nature outside of cactus. We need to protect these plants but the law can get in the way.

If you’re curious about succulent psychedelics, Garden States 2022 has got you covered. Join Keeper Trout, Dr Liam Engel, Simon Green and many other cacti heads at this special event.
