Mapping Entheogenesis Through the Ecological-Self
Humanity must recognise plant consciousness and interspecies communication, and psychedelics can get us there.
In EntheoTV’s newest video, filmed at Garden States 2022, The Australian Psychedelic Society’s Jef Baker presents his thesis on Deep Ecology and the Ayahuasca experience. Deep ecologists propose that ecological ideas are insufficient to for changing the world. What is needed is a ‘wider-identification’ or ‘ecosophical’ worldview, and the recognition of the intrinsic interconnection of all life.
Jef contends that the ecological-self describes a ‘mode of being’ able to perceive and experience all living things as inseparable and encourages us to explore our affinities with other beings. Psychedelic compounds and entheogenic plants expand our sense of self, disrupting fixed identity giving us an opportunity to challenge our assumed boundaries of separation.
Psychedelic experiences of an ecological-self help us identify with a broader non-human biotic community and allow us to see beyond the present into the ‘deep time’ of evolution. In doing so, we can consider the real roots of consciousness and our role on this planet.
The video below was also filmed at Garden States 2022. John Seed, a pivotal figure in the deep ecology movement, reflects on his life of spirituality and plant conservation; giving emphasis to the role of psychedelics in his journey.
